Danny Sturgeon

Research, Development & Quality Manager

With 46 years in the concrete and quarrying industry Danny has an intimate knowledge of concrete mix design and development making him an integral part of the HB team.

Commencing work in a laboratory in the late 1960’s, Danny found his niche and completed a Concrete Technical Course at the (former) WA Institute of Technology. Danny joined CSR Readymix in Perth where he spent approximately seven years in their laboratory in a management role. A brief stint in Africa working for the Johannesburg City Council saw Danny carrying out a technical role in their Bituminous Concrete, Soil and Concrete laboratory.

Back in Australia Danny was involved in a number of landmark projects including:

  • Dampier Salt project;
  • Mount Newman Railway Iron Ore project;
  • Mount Tom Price to Karratha Railway;
  • Worsley Mine and Aluminium Refinery;
  • Curtin Air Base; and,
  • C17 Air Base Commonwealth Government project.

Following the Curtin Air Base project and the overseas roles, Danny spent time with Pioneer Concrete before revisiting CSR Readymix as the Technical Manager for five years. Having previously spent four years working for HB, Danny returned as Quality Research Development, where HB Concrete has had the benefit of his knowledge and skill with customers profiting from this experience for the last six years.

Danny believes the big human factor at HB starts at the top and reflects down the line, with good people making a great team.
